Meghalaya is said to be one of the most challenging places for healthcare providersfor its prolonged rainfall, unbearable cold in certain locations, landslides, narrowroads, lack of electricity supply and disturbed telephone connection in the interiorplaces. Considering the above mentioned points government of Meghalaya implemented PPP. Initially Karuna Trust started with 3 PHCs and 1 CHC in 2009, at present Karuna Trust is managing 11 PHCs in over 4 districts.

Meghalaya meaning “abode of clouds”; is a state in northeastern India. Meghalaya was formed by carving out two districts from the state of Assam: the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, and the Garo Hills on 21 January 1972. The population of Meghalaya as of 2016 is estimated to be 3,211,474. Meghalaya covers an area of approximately 22,430 square kilometres, with a length-tobreadth ratio of about 3:1.

Energy & Environment
Solar Energy Implementation:
- Karuna Trust has installed solar panels to power 3 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and 4 sub centers in Meghalaya.
- Data loggers have been procured and utilized to monitor data at various sites, aiding in energy audits.
- The protocol and process for Combined Health and Energy Audits have been developed.
Tribal and Rural Education
Extended Community Health Outreach Program (ECHO)
In association with ECHO, a medical education-integrated training through virtual-clinic and online sessions for ANM, ASHA workers and PHC management staff. Knowledge-transfer sessions by specialists and best practises to boost workspace productivity are conducted.
