Boat Clinic and Base Hospital
One of the young people’s projects of the Karuna Trust is the Vivekananda Boat Clinic and Base Hospital. KT started a comprehensive Boat clinic services for the schedule Tribe and rural population of Biswanath and Lakhimpur districts of Assam. This Boat clinic operates from the mid of islands and tributaries of the mighty river Brahmaputra.
We also operate an ambulance services used for the transportation of patients for either referral or for those identified/ rescued by the boat clinic.

Tertiary Health Care
10 bed ICU
Assam is a state in north eastern India known for its wildlife, archeological sites and tea plantations. The state capital, Dispur, is a suburb of Guwahati. The 10BedICU project is supporting the government of Assam to establish 36 units of 10Bed ICU in newly constructed ICU sites under the Assam Critical Care Infrastructure Project across identified districts hospitals.

Tribal and Rural Livelihood
The North East Zonal Office of Karuna Trust is located at Barangabari village under Gohpur Sub Division of Sonitpur District in Assam. The following activities were carried out by the Integrated Rural Development Project of this centre during the year 2018-2019.
Community Eye Care Program :
33 screening camps were organized in different blocks and villages of Biswanath District of Assam and 6 such screening camps were organized in Tarasso circle of Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh. Cataract screening was the primary objective of these camps and the cataract positive cases are taken to RK Mission Hospital Itanagar for free eye surgery. During the year 2018-2019, 2876 patients were screened and 497 cataract cases were detected while 268 pterigyum cases were reported. Of these,198 cataracts and 22 Pterigium cases were operated at the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital during the year.
Relief & Rehabilitation camps for flood victims:
During Aug 2018, there were three rounds of massive flood near Karuna Trust zonal centre due to excessive rainfall. Deluge in many parts of Assam affected more than 32 lakhs population in 18 districts. Karuna Trust helped provide healthcare and medical support through our qualified medical team, with treatment and health awareness camps.
Coaching class for Matric Failed students:
In the year 2018-2019, 46% of students failed in the board exam (matriculation) in Assam. It was found that failed students are mostly from the BPL/poor families who study in Govt. schools. Considering this, in the month of June to December 2018, Karuna Trust started has started a seven months free coaching class for these students of Gohpur area Vi vekananda Bal Gurukula: Vivekananda Bal Gurukuls are setup for all-round development of village school children. In a very friendly and entertaining environment of Bal – Gurukul, classes are held to improve student’s academic performance and also to improve mental & physical health, incorporating moral education & yoga. In the year 2018-19, a total of 33 students attended the classes in Vivekananda Bal Gurukul located in Joriguri village. All the students are from tribal families of Joriguri and nearby villages.
Tailoring & Embroidery Learning Centre:
Karuna Trust started Tailoring and Embroidery Learning Centre in its Office premise, Barangabari in the month of July, 2013. In the year 2018-2019, 18 students were admitted in the tailoring course. Presently the centre has been producing baby kits (small clothes for new-borns) which are being distributed in the primary health centres managed by the Karuna Trust in Arunachal Pradesh & Meghalaya to promote institutional delivery in the health centres.
Computer Learning Centre:
Karuna Trust started a 6 to 12 months computer training programme from August 2015. These training modules include the Basics of the computer, DTP course and Tally course. Students from class 5 to 12 standard have taken admission for these courses. Considering the poor economic status of the students, a very nominal fee is charged from them. During the year, total 33 students took admission in various courses and 28 students could complete the course.
Certificate course on Yoga:
In collaboration with Patanjali Yog Peeth Haridwar, Helem Tehsil of Biswanth District of Assam, Karuna Trust organized a yoga certificate course, jointly with the Chaiduwar Sports Club, Ghahigaon from 20th May to 21st June 2018. The main objectives of the one-month course were to produce Yoga teacher for every village in Gohpur area. 34 students successfully completed Yoga course
Indigenous Fruits and Medicinal Plant Nursery:
Karuna Trust started a Nursery of Indigenous Fruit and Medicinal Plants at office premises, Barangabari. During the year 2018-2019, more than 3500 saplings were distributed among the SHG members, individuals, students and community leaders to plant the saplings. Presently the nursery is having around 5000 saplings.
Distribution of fruits plants free of cost:
To make the environment free from pollution, Karuna Trust Zonal centre distributed fruits plants free of cost in the nearby schools and villages in the month of July 2018. Total 3500 plants were distributed and planted by school students and villagers at different places. Karuna Trust Zonal office team member maintain these plants
Music School :
In order to revive the Indian and Assamese classical music and instruments, Karuna Trust started a music class in the office premises from January 2016. The Music school covers the following three categories; vocal, tabala and instruments. In 2018-2019, total 24 new students were admitted and graduated in the music class.
